Is it August Already? With so much to do and see in the breathtaking Pocono Mountains, summer is flying by as gracefully as a cyclist on a rural and scenic back road.
Even so, fun events abound at The Inn and its surrounds this month – including a very special dinner celebrating wine, women and food! Hawley's popular Wally Lake Fest rolls into town later in August, and our back deck is still groovin' through the 25th with the sounds of smooth jazz.
Come visit and check out what's happening!
August 20 | $85 per person
Celebrating the achievements of women in the culinary arts, our Wine, Women and Food dinner absolutely should not be missed. Marcia Dunsmore – creator of The Settlers Inn's infamous birdseed bread (not to mention our English toffee pudding!) – returns to our kitchen to prepare a special meal along with current pastry chef and Culinary Institute of America grad, Colleen Stevens.
Sommelier Leslie Chappell-Britt will pair each course with beloved wines grown by her favorite women winemakers. Owner/innkeeper Jeanne Genzlinger will host. The evening will conclude with a special coffee and dessert pairing with Mary Tillie of Electric City Coffee Roasting Company. Mary created the exclusive roast at our coffee house, Cocoon, and we are proud to have her share this special blend with all of you. Click here to check out the menu and start your mouth watering!
Kayaking lessons, kite flying, marching bands, art exhibits, boat parades, an ice cream social – and much, much more. Hawley's Wally Lake Fest – held August 27-29 – can't be beat for old-fashioned, end-of-summer fun.
The Settlers Inn is contributing to the merriment with Brews, Blues and BBQ on Friday, August 27. This informal event on the lawn will feature music by The Ralph Liberto Trio and a special beer tasting of artisanal brews by Shawnee Craft, a local brewpub. Baby back ribs and other BBQ classics grace the menu, as well as innovative kitchen creations, such as wild boar sausage. Click here for the complete menu. Dinner begins at 6:30. $25 per person.
We wrap up this year's Jazz on the Deck series with two events featuring one of our favorite artists – Stefan Bauer. A master on the vibraphone, Stefan will perform August 18 with his group, Voyage, and August 25 with a jazz pianist. Born in Germany, Bauer is internationally regarded as an excellent instrumentalist, and as a dynamic and flexible improvisor who competently moves between mainstream and avant garde. His credentials as a composer include more than 40 pieces documented on CD's. He has led musical groups on annual German tours since 1981.
Believe it or not, Christmas will be here before you know it! We're preparing here at The Settlers Inn by accepting reservations earlier than ever for our Annual Victorian Christmas Dinners (to be held on December 3 and 4 this year). You can call to book your spot starting on Wednesday, September 8 at 8:00 a.m. This extremely popular event sells out quickly, so mark your calendar and put our number on speed dial: 570-226-2993.
