Around the Inn

The Settlers Inn offers many quiet, comfortable spots for reading, meditating, playing chess, or simply relaxing in our garden swing perched along Wanna Get Away? New to The Inn's garden this year is a series of sculptures by local artist Tom Holmes, reminiscent of Andy Goldsworthy's style.

Across the street, Hawley's Bingham Park offers tennis courts, a playground and a walking trail. The town of Hawley also offers a two-mile scenic walk through the park and along the Lackawaxen River. Guests will enjoy the area's lush grasses, abundant bird inhabitants, and fresh rolling water.

Downtown Hawley also features many fine specialty shops such as Penny Lane Candies & Candles and Miss Elly's Antiques and Such. The Downtown Hawley Partnership hosts a series of seasonal special events like First Fridays, the Hawley Harvest Hoedown and Winterfest.

Carriage Barn Antiques

Antiquing: Antique shops abound in downtown Hawley and in some of the historic barns and buildings along near-by back roads and in many of the quaint river towns along the Upper Delaware. Carriage Barn Antiques and Timely Treasures are just two of the many shops offering unique items, quality trinkets, jewelry and furniture of yesteryear. Ask at The Inn's front desk for a list of stores and directions to many spots of all sizes and specialties.

Boating: Lake Wallenpaupack is a popular spot for sailing, motor boating, water-skiing and jet-skiing. Enjoy the day fishing, water skiing, sailing or just relaxing on your own boat. Cooking School: Internationally renowned chef and sugar artist, Sheelah Kaye-Stepkin, runs a wonderful recreational cooking school right here in Hawley—the Torte Knox Cooking School.

Fishing: The Lackawaxen and Delaware Rivers are both widely recognized as excellent fisheries for trout and shad, among others. Lake Wallenpaupack is popular for bass fishing. Ask us about our special fishing packages, with a half-day guided trip on the Delaware.

Hiking: The Delaware River Highlands is unsurpassed for hikes and splendid views of all kinds—especially the amazing network of waterfalls that cuts through the area's rugged escarpment and spills into the scenic Upper Delaware River.

From Shuman Point and the Ledgedale Area on Lake Wallenpaupack, to Lacawac Sanctuary, Dorflinger-Suydam Sanctuary, Promised Land State Park, and Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area our abundant near-by trails offer a seemingly endless supply of new and exciting outdoor adventures. These are also delightful spots for birding and photography.

Eagle Spotting: In the colder months, the Hawley area is a great place to spot wintering bald eagles. Or, simply take our Scenic Back Roads Tour with a pair of binoculars and you'll most likely spy them along the way.

Golf: Tee off in style at the beautiful Woodloch Springs Resort or the Cricket Hill Golf Course. Ask at The Inn's front desk staff to arrange a tee time.

Ritz Company Playhouse

Performing Arts: The Ritz Company Playhouse, in downtown Hawley, features stage productions of musicals, comedies and mysteries each weekend through the summer season, and the Wildflower Music Festival offers a delightful series of summer outdoor concerts.

The Bethel Woods Center for the Performing Arts presents a variety of artists and performances, including classical, pop, rock and country. A 40-minute drive from The Inn, Bethel Woods is located at the site of the original 1969 Woodstock Festival. The Museum at Bethel Woods, which tells the fantastic story of the 1960s and the Woodstock Festival, is also located on-site.

Skiing: Downhill and cross-country skiing are popular winter sports in the Delaware River Highlands. Ski Big Bear at Masthope Mountain is within minutes of The Inn, and offers excellent weekday and week-end downhill adventures and snow tubing.

The marked trails through the Dorflinger-Suydam Sanctuary and the nearby state parks and forests offer miles of cross-country excursions. Ask at The Inn's front desk for additional information on places for snowmobiling and sledding.

Swimming: Lake Wallenpaupack has a fabulous public beach, and Settlers Inn guests receive free pool privileges at the Woodloch Springs Sport Complex.

Winterfest: Venture to this lovely small town in winter and you will find a jolly dose of delightful activities waiting for you at every turn. This annual holiday time celebration has become one of the most popular events in the Poconos and all of Northeastern Pennsylvania – so plan ahead!

Yoga & Pilates:The Himalayan Institute Main Street Café offers a variety of yoga classes in a spacious second-floor studio; and a café, bookstore and gift shop on the first floor. This yoga center in near-by Honesdale is affiliated with the well-known Himalayan Institute a non-profit educational and spiritual organization that promotes self-awareness and holistic health.

The Mountain Laurel Pilates Studio, in downtown Hawley, offers private, semi-private, and group instruction by Certified Power™ and Peak Pilates™ Instructors.
