Around the Inn
The Settlers Inn offers quiet spots for reading, meditating, playing chess and other games, croquet on the lawn, and horseshoes. Right across the street in Bingham Park are tennis courts, a playground, and a walking trail. The Lackawaxen River and the town of Hawley also offer paths to stroll.

Lake Wallenpaupack and the Lake Region of northeastern Pennsylvania comprise an area of year-round natural beauty and historical interest. From active sports to quiet relaxation, the variety of activities in the area offers something for everyone.
Antiquing: Antique stores and shops abound in Hawley itself and in barns and buildings along the back roads. Castle Antiques, housed in the largest bluestone building in the world, bursts with three floors of antiques and reproductions. Carriage Barn Antiques and Timely Treasures also offer treasures of yesteryear. Ask an innkeeper for a list of stores and directions to many spots of all sizes and specialties.
Boating: Lake Wallenpaupack is a popular spot for sailing, motor boating, water-skiing, and jet-skiing. Ask an innkeeper for rental recommendations around the lake. Promised Land State Park offers canoeing and kayaking and the Delaware River is a favorite for canoeing, kayaking, as well as rafting and tubing. Cooking School: Internationally renowned chef and sugar artist, Sheelah Stepkin, runs a wonderful recreational cooking school right here in Hawley the Torte Knox Cooking School.
Fishing: The Lackawaxen River and the Delaware River are both quite well known and provide excellent trout and shad seasons among others. Lake Wallenpaupack is popular for bass fishing. Ask us about our special fishing packages, with a half-day guided trip on the Delaware.
Hiking: The Delaware Highlands area is unsurpassed for hikes and splendid views of all kinds especially the amazing Northeast Pennsylvania waterfalls. From Shuman Point and the Ledgedale Area on Lake Wallenpaupack, to the Lacawac Sanctuary, Dorflinger-Suydam Sanctuary, and Promised Land State Park, the trails through nearby state parks and forests are terrific for a day of nature. These are also delightful spots for birding and photography.
Golf: Tee off in style at the beautiful Woodloch Springs Resort or the Cricket Hill Golf Course. Ask an innkeeper to help arrange a tee time.
Horseback Riding: Located in nearby Honesdale, the Triple W Riding Stables takes a unique approach to horseback riding beginning with a personalized interview regarding past riding experiences. The rider is then assigned a horse according to his or her level of ability.
Performing Arts: The unique Mountain Laurel Center for the Performing Arts in nearby Bushkill offers a variety of venues for experiencing arts and culture of various kinds. You can see a Broadway show in the Theatre in the afternoon then attend a pre-concert lecture in the Cultural Arts and Benefactors Building just before the concert under the Pavilion. End your day with drinks and cabaret in the center's Lakehouse. The Ritz Company Playhouse also features stage productions of musicals, comedies, and mysteries each weekend through the summer season, and the Wildflower Music Festival offers a delightful series of concerts. Brand new to the area is the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts. A 40-minute drive from the inn, Bethel Woods is located at the site of the original 1969 Woodstock Festival. Set within nearly 1,700 pristine acres, Bethel Woods presents a variety of artists and performances, including classical, pop, rock and country.
Skiing: Downhill and cross-country skiing are popular winter sports in the Delaware Highlands. The Tanglwood and Big Bear/Masthope ski areas are within minutes of the Inn and have snow-making capabilities. The marked trails through the Dorflinger-Suydam Sanctuary and the nearby state parks and forests offer miles of cross-country skiing. Ask an innkeeper for additional information on places for snowmobiling and sledding.
Swimming: Lake Wallenpaupack has a fabulous public beach, and Settlers Inn guests receive free pool privileges at the Woodloch Springs Sport Complex..
Yoga & Pilates: Himalayan Institute Main Street offers a variety of yoga classes in a spacious second-floor studio; and a café, bookstore and gift shop on the first floor. This yoga center in nearby Honesdale is affiliated with the well-known Himalayan Institute a non-profit educational and spiritual organization that promotes self-awareness and holistic health. The Pilates and Yoga Studio provides both pilates and yoga instruction enabling guests to reap the benefits of both practices without having to travel or to choose one over the other.
